Directing
Denial of Service
a one-act radio play
written by Nick Hennessy
directed by Nick Williams (that's me)
May 9–10, 2020
"In the dry, desolate outskirts of L.A. County, social workers oversee the welfare of local children. Emma arrives in this unforgiving environment ready to play saviour and fight injustice. But her supervisor, Sandy, lives by a different code, and is not too keen on the young upstart challenging her authority. A child’s safety becomes the battleground for a war of morality… and the consequences will leave no one unscathed. Loosely inspired by true events."
I directed this play during my final semester at Bennington College, as part of the Bennington Plays, a series of one act plays written, directed, and performed by Bennington Students. Due to the pandemic, we were unable to stage this show fully in front of a live audience. Through many weeks of virtual rehearsals, we put together a radio play, and made a recording all in one take. Post-production work done by Otto Schatz and myself. The final product aired on Bennington Radio (B-RAD) on May 9 and 10, 2020.
